LINBIT to Sponsor & Attend Open Source Summit Europe 2024 in Vienna

True to its roots in and commitment to open source, LINBIT® is a silver sponsor of the Linux Foundation’s Open Source Summit Europe 2024 conference, held this year in LINBIT’s home city of Vienna, Austria, September 16-18. Members of the LINBIT team will attend the summit and two LINBIT developers, Moritz Wanzenböck, and Robert Altnoeder, will each give talks.

Declaratively Deploying Applications & Services in Kubernetes

Moritz will be presenting on the topic of Operators and the Kustomize declarative management tool in Kubernetes, specifically how you can use them to deploy custom applications and services within Kubernetes. Moritz is the lead developer at LINBIT for the LINSTOR® software-defined storage (SDS) integration with Kubernetes for highly available persistent storage, and also the lead developer of the upstream Cloud Native Computing Foundation (CNCF) sandbox project, Piraeus Datastore. These open source projects both use an Operator to deploy their SDS and HA toolings in Kubernetes and have already seen a couple of major version releases, so Moritz will drawn on plenty of real-world experience in this area.

You can learn more about Moritz’s talk at the Open Source Summit Europe’s website: Kustomize Your Operator.

Resolving & Avoiding Corner Case Issues in Code

Robert will be presenting on a topic that will be of interest to developers and support engineers: corner case defects in code. Robert has worked in both roles, as a software developer and as a root cause analysis specialist, and will bring this expertise and experience to the talk. Currently, Robert develops and works on various open source projects at LINBIT, including authoring the DRBDmon utility and has experience helping LINBIT developers and customers get to the bottom of what can sometimes be complicated and vexing deployment or operating issues. By using code examples, Robert will talk about how things can go wrong, and give advice on how to avoid making these mistakes.

You can learn more about Robert’s talk at the Open Source Summit Europe’s website: Hidden in Plain Sight: Corner Case Defects.

Booth: G/S16 | 16-18 September | Vienna, AT

LINBIT CEO and DRBD® creator Philipp Reisner, will attend the conference, and Linux creator, Linus Torvalds, will be giving a keynote speech. Maybe the two might meet and have the occasion to reminisce about the day in February 2010 when DRBD® was merged into the mainline Linux kernel, and also talk about the strides LINBIT is making towards getting the latest DRBD, version 9, into the Linux kernel.

Regardless of this hoped for encounter, Open Source Summit Europe 2024 should be a great event and we at LINBIT are proud to have a role in it. Come find us and say hello!

Michael Troutman

Michael Troutman has an extensive background working in systems administration, networking, and technical support, and has worked with Linux since the early 2000s. Michael's interest in writing goes back to an avid reading filled childhood. Somewhere he still has the rejection letter from a publisher for a choose-your-own-adventure style novella, set in the world of a then popular science fiction role-playing game, cowritten with his grandmother (a romance novelist and travel writer) when at the tender age of 10. In the spirit of the open source community in which LINBIT thrives, Michael works as a Documentation Specialist to help LINBIT document its software and its many uses so that it may be widely understood and used.
