Features

Features

Multitier Storage

Data can be stored on either HDD, SSD, NVME or PMem. Live migration is possible between different physical storage.

Geo-clustering

Makes it possible to have multiple clusters, each in different geographical locations, for disaster recovery or migration purposes.

Data Deduplication

Data deduplication is a technology that eliminates duplicate copies of data, thereby enabling better utilization of both storage devices and network bandwidth (when replicating data).

Automatic Recovery

LINBIT SDS detects failures and automatically recovers from failed drives, network interfaces, failing switches, and other hardware failures.

Data Locality

Each storage volume can be provisioned on local disks, or remote access can be achieved by using DRBD Diskless, iSCSI, NFS, NVMe-oF, and others.

Scaled-out, Distributed, Shared-nothing cluster architecture

High performance, scalability, availability, and reliability.

Data Integrity

To provide data integrity, LINBIT SDS supports three synchronization methods: variable-rate, fixed-rate, and checksum-based.

TRIM and Discard

Trim and discard are two names for the same feature: a request to a storage system, telling it that some data range is not being used anymore and can be used again as available storage space.

iSCSI, NFS

Built-in highly available (HA), scaled-out iSCSI targets, and NFS servers that are managed by LINBIT SDS.

Multi-attach

The same volume may be attached to many servers or clients.

Multithreading

The ability to use multiple CPU cores in parallel to increase the processing performance of a node.

Network Redundancy

Network redundancy can be archived by using TCP/IP as a network transport.

Thin Provisioning

Allows more storage to be visible to users than is physically available on the system. This reduces up-front hardware costs while allowing for growth. Using thin provisioning in LINBIT SDS also allows for storage snapshots and clones.

Shared Block Devices

Block devices are available on all of the client nodes, are fully consistent, and are simultaneously accessible (read only).

Snapshots and Clones

Instantaneous, copy-on-write (CoW), snapshots and clones.

Cache Mechanism

LINBIT SDS supports dm-cache and bcache for spinning drives that need SSD caching.

Integrations

REST API

Provides seamless integration, simple management, and high availability.

Backup Shipping

Allows for long distance replication and backups to S3 and other targets, for disaster recovery and migration purposes.

Operations

Volume Management

Easily create, remove, and modify volumes by using the CLI or GUI clients. Supported through REST API and drivers for integrating with other platforms.

Backups and Disaster Recovery

Supported through an asynchronous transfer of encrypted snapshots to remote locations.

Hyper-converged Infrastructure

The LINBIT VSAN appliance gives you the ability to have hyper-converged infrastructure. This solution gives you increased flexibility, simplified deployments, and lowers your costs compared to a native VMware solution.

Online Volume Changes

Reconfiguring volume settings are possible without interruption, while storage is online.

Templates

You can automate volume creation and management by using resource groups and resource definitions as templates. This makes deploying large numbers of the same types of resources trivial and ensures consistency.

Separated Data and Control Planes

Because LINBIT SDS components have separate data and control planes, you can easily upgrade and manage the entire cluster without disruption to the storage provided to your applications and services.

Key Differentiations

Open Source

LINBIT SDS is open source software that provides transparent development to earn trust and build community.

Low CPU and Memory Consumption

LINBIT SDS performs better while using lower CPU and memory resources compared to other offerings in the market.

Unmatched In-kernel Data Replication

DRBD can provide up to 32 replicated persistent volumes.

Three types of replication

DRBD allows for synchronous, asynchronous, and semi-synchronous replication.

Highspeed Replication

LINBIT SDS continues to set world IOPS records with its fast-performing solution.

Multi Platform

Openshift, Opennebula, Openstack, Kubernetes, Docker, Hyper-V, VMware, Proxmox, and others.

LINBIT SDS Networking Protocol

DRBD Diskless mode, developed for maximum throughput and lowest possible latency.
