On the subject of performance, PHOENIX MEDIA decided to integrate LINBIT SDS in its operations with Rancher, the Kubernetes distribution from SUSE. Rancher comes with a cloud-native persistent storage solution called Longhorn. While Longhorn ties nicely in Rancher’s UI, “the solution doesn’t meet our expectations for high traffic eCommerce sites”, says Björn Kraus, PHOENIX MEDIA’s CTO. “Stability and I/O performance are vital to run StatefulSets like Elasticsearch or MySQL under high load. LINBIT SDS is easy to manage and outperforms our previous solution by providing almost bare-metal performance for reads and excellent write throughput with the existing NVMe/10G hardware.”
Our LINBIT SDS data storage solution is available for Kubernetes, OpenStack, Apache CloudStack, OpenNebula, oVirt, XCP-ng, and Proxmox VE. It is based on the open-source projects LINSTOR and DRBD. LINBIT SDS for Kubernetes also includes the open-source project Piraeus Datastore, a CNCF project.
A benefit of integrating LINBIT SDS with Kubernetes is that LINSTOR will control and manage your configured block devices and create and manage file system resources within Kubernetes, offering persistent data storage for your applications and services running in Kubernetes.
LINBIT CEO and Founder Philipp Reisner added, “Unlike other open source SDS solutions, LINBIT SDS targets transactional workloads like databases, enterprise message queuing, etc. It is not targeted at archiving purposes.
