Just a couple of days ago, I released drbd-9.2.20 and drbd-9.3.4, which was an unusual release. As I explained in the release notes, we fixed more issues than in any previous development cycle. This is because the team has used ClaudeCode since the start of the year. From our first experiments, it took around six months to reach the point where we can accomplish much more in a cycle than before.
Our new process helps extract the important needle from a haystack of loglines. It also helps us write reproducers extremely quickly using our testing framework. Furthermore, it enables us to create new static analyzers tailored for DRBD and develop a simulator that allows us to test the DRBD code deterministically against unusual timings that are very hard to reproduce on regular VMs.
I have to say that it is much quicker than humans at coming up with patch proposals. Even if you have to reject the first three proposals, you may be impressed by the fourth. I recommend upgrading to this version because of the number of fixes it includes.
In fiction, AI is often flawless in execution and possibly catastrophic in judgment. Remember HAL kills the crew, Skynet exterminates humanity, Ash and Mother betray the Nostromo crew, and Ava manipulates her way out of the lab. Now that AI is really here, we see it is not flawless in execution, but it’s still very helpful. I don’t want to comment on whether the real AI is better at judgment: We maintain control (which code changes get merged, strictly in human hands).
Before I move on to other topics, I plan to discontinue the 9.2.x series soon, so expect only one more release. We can’t wait to start the 9.4 series with exciting new features. Maintaining 3 branches in parallel would be too much.
Now the latest LINBIT content. We held our Q3 Community Meeting last week. LINBIT Developer Robert Altnoeder shared new DRBDmon features, LINBIT Solutions Architect Yusuf Yıldız took over a segment, and I presented an update on the LINBIT software development roadmap.
