On May 8th, 2025, LINBIT® will sponsor and host the CloudStack European User Group (CSEUG) 2025 community conference in LINBIT’s home city of Vienna, Austria. ShapeBlue and proIO are also sponsoring the event. This is a chance for people across the Apache CloudStack community to come together to share experiences, learn from experts, and grow together, through technical talks, user stories, and feature and integration presentations.
Background on LINBIT sponsorship
While Apache CloudStack has open source roots going back over a decade and is currently on its fourth major version release, the platform has been gaining more attention as more people seek alternatives to VMware virtualization solutions.
Since early 2021, the LINBIT team has been actively developing for the CloudStack platform, with most of the work focusing on a CloudStack storage plugin that integrates the open source software-defined storage (SDS) management system, LINSTOR®, with CloudStack. The plugin was merged into the Apache CloudStack codebase in September of 2021 and brings SDS, high availability (HA), and disaster recovery (DR) capabilities to CloudStack storage.
An article on the LINBIT blog, “Making Primary Storage in CloudStack Highly Available by Using LINSTOR” provides more background on the LINSTOR integration with CloudStack and includes links to videos of LINBIT team members presenting at past CloudStack events.
Beyond a storage plugin
Besides releasing new features and other improvements to the plugin, the LINBIT team released the LINBIT® CloudStack® HCI Appliance in late 2024 in a Technology Preview state. This software appliance, distributed as a freely available ISO installer image file, makes it easy to install a ready-made CloudStack deployment with LINSTOR-managed CloudStack storage in a hyperconverged 3-or-more-node architecture.
